Prepping night
Well my package from my local cloth diaper store Simple Wonders just came in. I loved that she came by to not only give me a demo of the diapers she had but to actually come by and drop off the package herself since she was in the area. I'm so very excited so I'm staying up late till I can put the diapers into the dryer or hang them from the wash so this fluff mail night has become a prepping night since I'm just so super excited just to get these on the twins.
G-force next to the new fluff. |
So prewash, wash, rinse, and rinse is my washing routine. For the detergent I use to wash the diapers is All Free and Clear. When I told my husband that I wanted to cloth diaper and that we would be needing a different detergent for the diapers then what we use for the clothes and the clothes of the twins. He immediately started to research about detergents that can be used for the diapers I don't know where he found it but his searched led him to All Free and Clear. So far with the smaller stash it was working on keeping the stink out. So I've yet to try out a striping of the diapers as of yet.

Gforce and Abomb the Start of Fluff Bums
Well the twins are 6 weeks old now and between feedings, diapers changes, laundry, and total exhaustion. I've started to cloth diaper them a few days after both their umbilical cords fell off and at the time that I started I could only use two of the g-diapers which I wasn't too much of a fan. Between myself and my husband we had so many blowouts and leaks that we didn't get the chance to use the shell we also had the trouble with their legs being so skinny the thigh opening was so loose on both the boys. We also didn't have the newborn gdiapers and couldn't afford to buy any before or when they where ready for the cloth. Every time I put on the diaper the g pants did not seem right I wasn't sure if it would hold everything in. So for leaks and blowouts the g-diaper has not been working for us though there has been improvement from when we first started it They've just hit eight pounds each fitting into the rest of the diapers that I got from my sister-in-law. I do like all the colors that they come in and the fact that is a hybrid only for the sole reason as to start with the cloth diapers. I've had a chance to try it out with the twins I like being able to use an AI2 system.
I've also been able to tryout the thirsties , a pocket diaper. Since I started using it I've yet to experience any leaks or blowouts. But with twins I'm afraid it may not be useful I may have to buy additional diapers. Just like disposable supposed to be used once and then washed. So the way to determine that I'm going to buy some of more pocket diapers so I can see how more will work with the twins.
Along with the thirsties and g diapers I've been able to make my own diapers 1 a pocket the other 2 were covers. The covers are uses the disposable g inserts along with the a kissaluvs. Abomb is wearing the pocket on the left and Gforce is wearing the cover on the right. (Their little pet names given by my sister-in-law, which suits them both very well.)

Babyville diaper
Babyville boutique is a one stop shop for those wanting to find and just can't seem to find all the cloth diaper patterns for their homemade diapers online. (Don't worry I will post these patterns some where on this post or on the site.)
They have some cute patterns that I love and are available at your local fabric store such as Jo Ann's. There have been issues with the PUL of their fabrics coming off. So far from what I have been seeing from their Facebook page anyone with issues that have posted there have been asked to email them through their Facebook contact. So it looks like they are working on that issue. Many people also don't like that they are selling free patterns online. I can see that point, but for $9.99 for each book what they are selling is a step by step guides. I'm not very talented with sewing so their guides are very helpful for when I'm next to my sewing machine and not close to my computer.
When I wrote this post they had two how to books on how to make various cloth diapers from pre-folds being made to fitted diapers, pockets, and many others. Their other book all the basic essentials for your little one. I've made one diaper cover with one of their fabric packs with three different fabrics. I love the tips that they have in various areas as well as the step by step instructions. I've heard that they are working on new improve books. As soon as I can afford to I will let you know what my experience is with those books.
So if you have a sewing machine well time to drag it out from storage and lets get sewing.

Shopping for cloth diapers at consignment stores.
Okay I will have to say I did want to find some cloth diapers at the consignment stores but with less then $15 I was not filled with hope that I would find any. So I want down the street to the closest store near by. And while I scavenge through the wipes and cloth area a tiny section in that particular store. I was surprised to find a kissas by kissaluvs for about $4 yes the biggest purchase that day. So with the one fitted diaper and 30 or so wipes I went home quite satisfied and ready to wash the wipes and put them away in the wipe warmer I found at a garage sale for $5, yes don't forget the garage sales or craigslist. So right now I am waiting (okay I am just ready to burst out the door to go for another hunt!) to go for my next trip to see if I can find some more jewels.
So check out your local consignment store, they might surprise you on what they have.

It is POSSIBLE!
Ok so your thinking I have twins I'm going to be to busy with doing extra laundry on top of my normal stuff to even consider cloth diapers. Well here are three links to posts from Cloth Diaper Whisper and Cloth Diapers made easy about diapering twins. Showing that yes it is possible.
TWINS: Double The [Cloth Diaper] Pleasure
source: The Cloth Diaper WhisperA little bit of organizing and a lot of believing
source: The Cloth Diaper WhisperCloth Diapering Twins Made Easy!
source: Cloth Diapering Mad EasyHere are some additional ideas to help with cloth diapering your twins. Start with a diaper service to help clean the prefolds until your twins can fit into some pocket diapers. This is a great start if both parents work. Great Pocket diapers for twins are ones that the leg elastic can be adjusted. I've not yet tried these diapers myself, but am hoping too soon enough. Fuzzi Bunz Soft Bums Itti Bitti Now hopefully with this information to get you started find out what you can do for your situation and whether you go for cloth diapers or disposable I wish you the best of luck.

How I became green.
I started being green while I was a teenager I had started doing an extra chore. With the help of my parents and little sister I recycled cans. At that time it was also for extra money a few cents for just one can. In my families house we reused paper and plastic bags.
When I moved out and started living with my husband at the time my boyfriend I would drive what I could recycle to a neighboring grocery store with bins for all recycling items. Another step but too much time to go out.
When the trash provided started a new recycling program with one huge bin I was in love instead of just recycling cans glass and paper in the three bin the ability to recycle more from yugort containers to huge cardboard boxes. But then I thought lets not stop there I stopped using paper towels to clean with and went with kitchen towels some rags.
Hell when we where buying some things for the house to fix a few things I caught sight of reusable sponges which I had to beg my husband for. Hell as soon as i heard about wool balls I grabbed some wool yarn that I had plenty of and made a few wool balls.
So the next step will be with the biggest purchase for the twins diapers. I had decided if I can do all this recycling and reusing I can do cloth diapers. So I've been starting my stash from making homemade diapers, buying anything I can find at consignment stores, and signing up for giveaways. (Which I hope I can get a couple) We can't afford buying online or from our local cloth diaper store yet, but I'm confident that it can be done. It will be a tough road, but I like to be positive about it.

Introduction
Well, I'm sure that many people would think what the hell is this woman thinking. Starting a blog about cloth diapering not just with one baby but with twins even at times I think that myself. First I would like to introduce myself I'm Samara a soon to be mom of twin boys married to my wonderful husband who was one of my best friends in high school. I knit and crochet as well as sewing, we love to read and love video games.
I'm hoping to start this blog with a good start and and what better way to do it then an introduction.
At first I had thought of starting this post after the twins are born as a series of posts for the first few weeks we start to juggle everything to some sort of normalcy but then decided that introduction would be better before the twins arrived so I that you can get to know a little about myself and what I hope to accomplish with this blog. But I do plan on making a series of posts when they are here. When I first wrote this pose I was 25weeks along. The last picture I took was around 18-20 weeks.
The goal of this blog will be my journey of cloth diapering the boys from as soon as I can either from birth or as soon as they can fit. Either from using popular cloth diapers or from any handmade cloth diapers from various patterns. Doing all this with a limited budget. So I'm hoping we can cloth diaper with no problem. Why do I want to cloth diaper would help you know why I'm doing this. One of the reasons would be to have one less person using disposable diapers with two in diapers and diaper changes being 12+ a day not including changing at night.
I will also if i have the chance to be doing giveaways as well as linking giveaways from other sites.
Here are a few more pictures of my huge belly.
I'm right now at 36 weeks and these boys are suppose to be coming soon. And I've only gotten so much of the cloth diapers, I've got more sposies as gifts then cloth.... Well I guess it can do till their umbilical cords fall off. Still have to go to the store and get a few more cloth and various stuff.
Well until we can get settle once they are here I will be trying my best to post about giveaways of various fluff. Maybe one day have a few giveaways as well as start a non-profit for the Pacific North West. One step at a time, and thanks for coming.
